Surgery for San Francisco Men — Gynecomastia Surgery (Male Breast Reduction) and More

Today, more and more men in San Francisco and the area beyond are seeking out procedures like gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction), rhinoplasty, and other kinds of plastic surgery. With the increasing number of male patients, cosmetic surgery procedures have become increasingly tailored to fit the particular needs of men. While many of the procedures are similar to those traditionally performed for women, there are subtle, but significant surgical variations, which ultimately produce the best results in cosmetic surgery for a man.

During your consultation, Dr. Ramin Behmand will provide you with all the surgical, as well as the non-surgical, options for addressing your concerns, and you will have an opportunity to discuss various procedures and learn what is most appropriate for you.

Gynecomastia Surgery (Male Breast Reduction)

It is estimated that up to 20 percent of men in San Francisco are affected by some degree of gynecomastia, or the development of breast tissue. In most cases, the cause is unknown, though some medical conditions and the use of certain drugs can sometimes be to blame.

If you are one of the many men with this common problem, Dr. Behmand is pleased to offer male breast reduction as a solution. This procedure serves to remove any glandular tissue and excess fat from the breast area; the result is a firm, flat, and masculine chest.

Am I a Candidate for Male Breast Reduction?

Because of the many causes of gynecomastia, Dr. Behmand will talk to you during your consultation about lifestyle changes that may naturally reduce the amount of existing breast tissue. If you are obese, you should first attempt to lose weight through exercise and diet. Certain drugs, such as anabolic steroids, marijuana, or excessive alcohol, also cause gynecomastia; before attempting male breast reduction, you should discontinue use of these substances.

The Male Breast Reduction Procedure

Depending on the type and amount of breast tissue present, San Francisco plastic surgeon Ramin Behmand may use one of two male breast reduction techniques. If your gynecomastia is caused mostly by excess fat, Dr. Behmand will be able to treat you using only liposuction. Through a tiny incision, he will suction out the fat with a small tube (called a cannula).

If your breast enlargement is caused by glandular tissue in addition to fatty deposits, Dr. Behmand will remove the excess breast tissue and use liposuction to remove and contour the excess fatty tissue in the area.

After your gynecomastia surgery, you will experience moderate bruising and swelling in your chest. Most of these effects will subside after two weeks or so, with the majority of the swelling gone at six weeks after the operation. Your final results will be visible not long after that. When you come to our San Francisco-area office for a male breast reduction consultation with Dr. Behmand, he’ll be able to give you specific instructions to make your gynecomastia treatment a success. Other Types of Body Surgery

Aside from male breast reduction to treat gynecomastia, some of the most common concerns among men involve protruding abdomens, “love handles,” and excess skin after dramatic weight loss, as seen in post-bariatric patients. Dr. Behmand offers an array of body contouring procedures that address these problems and more:
