Nipple Reduction
Nipple reduction surgery addresses the size and length of enlarged nipples. This procedure can also combine with a breast lift to reduce the general size of enlarged areolas when indicated. Nipples can often become enlarged due to hormonal changes, genetics, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight gain. Enlarged nipples may result in embarrassment or the inability to wear certain clothing for fear of exposing the nipples. This procedure is a relatively quick and easy surgical solution for a problem that either women or men may face.
The Nipple Reduction Procedure
In some circumstances, Dr. Behmand performs nipple reduction surgery using local anesthesia. But when combined with another breast procedure (breast lift or breast augmentation) then the surgery is done under general anesthesia.
Dr. Behmand performs the nipple reduction procedure at our private surgery center, and it usually takes approximately 1 hour. It is an outpatient procedure, so patients can expect to go home shortly following the completion of the surgery.
In the nipple reduction procedure, we will remove the excess length of the nipple and leave behind only a slightly longer than desired length. Dr. Behmand uses this slight excess length to assist in reconstructing a naturally shaped nipple, resembling what one would expect in the absence of surgery.
Recovery from Nipple Reduction Surgery
Recovery from nipple reduction surgery is typically quick. We ask that patients take at least two days off work, unless they plan to have other procedures done at the same time, in which recovery will be longer.
It is important to follow all post-surgical instructions, which will be provided at a pre-operative appointment. These instructions will include incision care and temporary physical restrictions (for example; no gym, running, or heavy lifting).
“I just want to say thank you so much for everything and tell you what a pleasure you and your whole staff have been throughout the past couple of months. Every person on your staff has been incredibly professional, courteous, and helpful. You’ve got a great group of people there.
You’ve made my decision to go through with the surgery and every step since easier, and I now feel confident I have made the right choices.”
