The breasts often lose significant volume and develop sagging after bariatric surgery and massive weight loss. To help recover the initial youthful look, Dr. Ramin Behmand offers both breast lift and breast augmentation. You can undergo these two procedures alone or combine them. A breast lift aims to remove excess skin and reposition the breast higher on the chest. It is the use of a breast implant, through breast augmentation, which adds volume and an improved shape and firmness to the breast.
During your consultation with Dr. Behmand, you will have an opportunity to discuss your options and create a treatment plan that is appropriate for your needs and goals. We are excited to help guide you through this second phase of your weight loss process.
The Post-Bariatric Breast Procedure
The duration of your post-bariatric breast procedure varies from 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on whether you require augmentation, lift, or a combination of both. In the case of breast augmentation, the incision is typically made in the crease under the breast. On the other hand, for a breast lift, the incision is commonly around the areola, extending down to the crease. Generally, the ideal position for the breast implant is behind the chest muscle. Any variations suitable for your condition will be discussed by Dr. Behmand during your initial consultation.
Implants for Post-Bariatric Breast Procedures
If you choose to have breast augmentation using implants, Dr. Behmand will discuss your implant options during your initial consultation. Our patients have the choice between saline, cohesive silicone gel round, and “gummy bear” shaped implants.
Recovery From Your Post-Bariatric Breast Procedure
Typically, within 1–2 hours of completing your breast procedure, the surgery center will release you to a responsible adult at home. We ask that you take at least 1 week off work to fully recover in the calm and comfort of your home.
Most patients will have mild discomfort for the first 3 to 4 days after surgery. You can control this discomfort with prescription medication, provided during your pre-operative appointment. At this time, you’ll also receive detailed post-operative instructions. Please follow these carefully, which include minimizing upper arm movements and avoiding exercise-related physical activity for about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.
